NY officials: high waters can pose boating hazards

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) _ State officials are urging boaters to be wary of fast-moving rivers and streams over the long holiday.

Heavy rains over the past week over much of New York have left waterways swollen. State Parks Commissioner Rose Harvey said Tuesday that the high waters may pose unexpected dangers to boaters.

Officials recommend wearing life jackets, carrying safety gear like signal devices and telling others details about your boating plans.
