State Assembly Majority Leader Joseph Morelle says the Assembly has approved a one-year extension of a law providing certain Eastman Kodak retirees with post-bankruptcy health care benefits.
Morelle, from Irondequoit, sponsored the original bill after Kodak filed for Chapter 11 protection last year.
The law allows insurers to bid for the right to a service contract with retirees whose coverage was at risk due to the company’s bankruptcy and who are not yet eligible for Medicare. Kodak ended health benefits after a court decision on the matter last November.
State senate action on the measure is pending.
