The Republican Supervisor of Gates has officially thrown his hat in the ring as a candiate for Congress.
Mark Assini announced Thursday evening he's running against Democrat Louise Slaughter, who is going for her 15th term in the House of Representatives.
Slaughter has faced down a dozen Republican challengers since beating Congressman Fred Eckert in 1986. She beat Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks in 2012.
Assini says on his web page that he's running to bring "common sense ideas to Washington." A Slaughter spokesman says Upstate New Yorkers have a tradition of "rejecting Tea Party Politics and electing trustworthy leaders like Louise."
