Ciminelli Named Chief of RPD

Rochester, NY -- Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren has called off the search for a new police chief. She's named interim police chief Michael Ciminelli to the job without considering anyone else.

Ciminelli was raised in the 19th Ward, graduated from McQuaid, and became interim chief when Chief James Sheppard retired. His career included service as a prosecutor in the DA's office. He returned to the RPD in 2011.

He says he's focusing already on getting his officers out of their cars and being more visible.

Ciminelli is also implementing the quadrant policing system that he and the mayor outlined last month.
