Council drops ethics investigation request into Reggie Hill hiring

The Rochester City Council has filled the vacant seats on the city’s Board of Ethics…but Council President Loretta Scott says there’s no longer any need for an ethics investigation into the hiring of Reggie Hill.

Mayor Lovely Warren raised some ethics concerns when she hired Hill as Executive Services Director. His duties included heading the mayor's security detailk. Nobody said the retired State Trooper wasn’t qualified, but he’s the mayor’s uncle and she hired him as a temporary appointment without going through the usual process.

Council decided the issue warranted an ethics investigation, but said it would first have to fill a number of vacant seats on the ethics board. They made those appointments this week.

In the meantime, Reggie Hill decided to resign rather than be a distraction to the mayor. That being the case, Councilwoman Scott says she won’t be making the formal request for an investigation.
