ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) _ With his abortion proposal blocked in the Senate, Gov. Andrew Cuomo continued to meet with his coalition of women's groups on the other nine elements of his women's rights proposal.
Senate Republicans blocked Cuomo's proposal to match the state abortion law with less restrictive federal law.
The Independent Democratic Conference which shares majority control of the Senate with Republicans has proposed an alternative. It includes the proposals Cuomo made to address discrimination against women in the work place and to strengthen prostitution and domestic violence laws.
Members of the women's rights coalition left Cuomo's office after 7 p.m. Tuesday saying they were still supporting the abortion proposal.
Cuomo has said he will support the coalition if they decided to take the nine other items which could pass this week.
