Former Hells Angel Sentenced in Clandestine Scrap Steel Theft

Rochester, NY -- Federal prosecutors say a former Hells Angel from Webster has been sentenced to 37 months in prison for stealing more than 17 tons of high-grade scrap steel from a railcar at a freight yard in Batavia.

Authorities say Richard Riedman and four accomplices were caught driving off with the stolen steel in a logging truck in June 2009. Prosecutors say the men wore dark clothing and used two-way radios to communicate during the theft.

As part of the sentence, Riedman must pay more than $4,600 restitution.
