A former Lyons High School football star and seven other people are under arrest on drug trafficking charges after an investigation that took two years.
Horace Betts the Third was running an organization that distributed a kilo of cocaine per month around Wayne County. But police said Betts used his reputation on the football field and his family connections to surround himself with a "no snitching" code that thwarted their efforts to get evidence against him.
Betts was finally taken down by a team of investigators from three counties, the State Police and the federal DEA. They were able to infiltrate his organization, and gain information that let them track his drug purchases.
Those arrested include Betts' father. Police siezed $35,000 and half a kilo of cocaine.
