Monroe County agency to weigh tax breaks for Xerox

Xerox is considering a 35-million-dollar expansion of its toner plant in Webster. It's asking Monroe County's industrial development authority, COMIDA, to give it 441-thousand dollars in property and sales tax breaks. In return it would add a fourth production line and 25 new jobs.

Supervisor Nesbitt says Xerox already gets tax reductions from when it built the plant.

And Nesbitt says Xerox is currently suing the Town of Webster over its tax assessment on three other properties. He says that's not fair to Webster residents.

COMIDA held 2 public hearings on the issue in Webster Monday, and will discuss the matter Tuesday at its regular meeting.

A Xerox official said |Monday that the company could expand overseas as well as in Webster.
