Owner Gives Details of Downtown Grocery Store Plan

Rochester< NY -- Rochester's downtown area is getting a grocery store.

Reviving the name of an mid-20th century Rochester grocery chain, owner Glenn Kellogg is planning to open Hart's Local Grocers on May.

Kellogg says the store will feature local, natural and sustainably produced foods as well as the familiar national brands.

It will open inside the former Craig Autometrics building, around the corner from the Little Theatre. Kellogg says the environmental abatement needed to convert the former auto garage building for the store will be minor.

Kellogg says the store will compliment, and not take business from, the Public Market -- which is only open on weekends.

He says there are 2,000 households within walking distance. The logo features a child's wagon, but Kellogg is stopping short of saying for sure that the store will offer a delivery service to downtown residents.
