Rail agency to order cameras in locomotives

Two U.S. senators say the federal rail safety agency plans to order installation of video cameras aboard trains to monitor engineers and record accidents.

Senators Charles Schumer of New York and Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut said Sunday that they had been informed by the Federal Railroad Administration that it would begin the process of establishing the rule sometime this year.

Cameras will be installed in locomotive cabs to record unsafe behavior by crews.... and outward-facing cameras will scan the tracks.

Schumer and Blumenthal publicly urged the FRA to act last month following a deadly train derailment in New York City.
