Rochester Officer Shot By Wanted Murder Suspect

(13WHAM) Rochester N.Y.-A Rochester police officer this morning is recovering in Rochester General Hospital after he was shot several times in the arm Thursday my a man wanted in connection with a double homicide in the city Sunday night.

It happened around 4pm Thursday afternoon in the area of Goodman and Yates Street. Shots were exchanged between Sergeant Flamur Zemelovic and the suspect, 31 year old Ralph Strong.

Strong was hit. No word on his condition this hour. According to Rochester Police Chief James Sheppard,Sgt. Zenelovic sustained multiple non-life-threatening injuries to an arm.Rochester General Hospital say the Sgt today is alert and talking with his family, and will be alright.

 A passing motorist, 47-year-old Gene McDougal of Henrietta, was shot in the lower body. Police do not know whose gunfire injured McDougal at this time. He is listed in guarded condition.

The investigation does continue this hour.
