Rochester Police Investigate First Homicide of 2014

Rochester, NY -- Rochester police are investigating a homicde that happened just hours after the start of the New Year.

Police say officers responding to a report of a shooting inside at 55 Lois Street, around 3 a.m., found a 23-year-old city man dead at the scene. A 27-year-old man was found with with bullet wounds to his legs. His injuries are not considered life threatening and he was transported to Strong Hospital and has been released.

Lois Street is near Lyell Ave., east of Mt. Read Blvd.

Police say one of the responding officers became involved in a two-vehicle accident at Lyell Ave. and Murray St. The crash sent the other vehicle into a building at 505 Lyell. The building sustained minor damage. The officer suffered minor injuries. The occupants of the other car weren't hurt.
