Rochester Police Make Headway Against Human Trafficing

20 women are now in jail after police say they were working corners across the city. The arrests follow several prostitution stings Wednesday night.

Srgt. Justin Collins is a spokesman for Rochester police and he tells WHAM 1180 News that they are receiving more phone calls from city residents about prostitution.  “We know there is very violent crime that we are focusing on,” Collins says, “but also focusing on other quality of life of life issues is key to having a good balance.”

The woman ranging from 21-years-old to 56-years-old will serve jail time. Collins says that they will also receive treatment while they are there. “There are a couple programs, not only through the state, but also through local agencies to help transition these women out of this lifestyle.”

Rochester police perform similar sting operations every few months.
