Rochester, NY -- An expirement designed by students at Rochester's Early College International High School is scheduled to be launched Thursday night to the International Space Station.
The experiment will test the effects of microgravity on live and dehydrated microscopic organisms that are known to survive extreme conditions. After three months in orbit, the organisms will be brought back for analysis and comparison to control samples kept on Earth.
After completing the analysis in the spring, the students will be invited to present the results of their research at a conference in Washington.
The expirement is onboard a Cygnus spacecraft scheduled to be launched at 9:19 p.m. from the spaceport on Wallops Island, Virginia.
