Salvatore Matano has been installed as Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester in ceremonies at Sacred Heart Cathedral, expressing his gratitude for those who prepared him and who led the Rochester Diocese before him.
Bishop Matano said he's not the only Catholic in Rochester. He says all baptized Christians are part of Christ's mission and have a responsibility to face the church's future challenges. He asked all Catholics who have fallen away from the church to come back on board.
In a homily seasoned with jokes about the weather, Bishop Matano thanked Bishop Emeritus Matthew Clark. He said the people of Rochester are now his family, and the Diocese of Rochester is his home.
