State's Unemployment Rate Dips to Nearly 5-Year Low

Figures from the state labor department show the State’s unemployment rate dropped three-tenths of a percentage point in December to 7.1 percent -- its lowest level in nearly five years.

The unemployment rate outside New York city dropped three-tenths to 6.3 percent.

New York State, which makes up about 6.5 percent of the nation’s jobs, accounted for 12 percent of private sector job growth nationally since October.

Since Governor Cuomo took office three years ago, the State economy has added 390,600 private sector jobs.
