Rochester, NY -- The Rochester Area Community Foundation says more young people from low-income city families got free summer meals last year, but the increase in participation fell short of the goal.
Organizers of the summer meals program set their sights on boosting participation by 20 percent a year through 2016. The increase last summer was about 3 percent. More than 5,300 young people were served each day.
The goal, however, remains intact. This year, organizers plan to hire a part-time coordinator and engage the Ad Council for Greater Rochester to inform more families about the program.
