URMC To Purchase Lakeside Health Systems

Brockport, N.Y. – The Lakeside Medical Center will open its door again. The University of Rochester Medical Center will rename the facility URMC Strong West.

The facility on West Avenue in Brockport will operate an Advanced Urgent Care Facility and, pending approval by the state, could open its emergency department that handled 17,000 emergency visits last year.

“Lakeside has meant a lot to so of people over the past 80 years,” says Nancy Plews Chair of the Lakeside Health System. “We have been known for our quality and car and the hospital is an important resource to our community.”

The 30 – 40 person Urgent Care staff is expected to be back to work before the students at The College at Brockport return in the fall. “We are unveiling a new model for converting a former acute care hospital into a cluster of outpatient and urgent care facilities,” says Bradford Berk CEO of the University of Rochester Medical Center.

If approved by the state to reopen an emergency room, Lakeside would transition its Advanced Urgent Care into the Emergency Department.

The Lakeside board will remain intact and operate the facilities including the urgent care facility in Spencerport also being added to the URMC.

The Beikirch nursing and short term rehabilitation facility will continue to operate out of the former hospital. Lakeside will also be used for a wide range of outpatient services by the regions number one employer.
