A Wayne County man is under arrest for assault after an investigation that lasted more than a year.
The Newark Police Department charged Camron Douglas, 20, with shooting a village homeowner through the back door of his house in October of 2012.
Chief David Christler says the victim answered a knock on his door about 5:00 in the morning and saw a young man brandishing a long gun with at least one other person behind him. He slammed the door and turned to run when the shot hit him in the back.
EMTs saved the victim's life, but the injury left the victim partially disabled.
Chief Christler calls it one of the more horrific crimes in Newark in more than six years.
