Bob Lonsberry - Memorial Day Weekend 2014

Bob Lonsberry - Memorial Day Weekend 2014

  •
Here's a happy Memorial Day for us, playing in the creek down in my hometown.
  •
Instinctively, Lonsberrys know that all the rocks have to be thrown back in the water. Here, Jack and Scott do their duty.
  •
Dear Mrs. Lonsberry watches over the happy horde. We hang out where Colonel Bill's Creek flows into the Canisteo River.
  •
Young Sam is of the third generation of Lonsberrys to have played in this very creek as a child.
  •
In Mount Morris, after the parade and ceremony, Memorial Day means free hot dogs at the Vets Building. Dear Hannah has come to this since she was a newborn.
  •
Young Scott has less experience eating hot dogs, as his technique shows, but he brings great enthusiasm to the task.
  •
After hot dogs, and before we go to the creek, we drive to Canisteo and visit family graves. Here, Ellie stands near the great-grandmother after whom she is, in part, named.
  •
Young Robbie joins in on this photo from more family graves.
  •
Scott and I took a trip to the city over Memorial Day weekend, to do some shopping. Part of the trip was for him, to ride the truck in the mall ...
  •
... and part of the trip was for me, to pick up a few more apple trees. I plant more each year down on my country land. Someday somebody will eat some apples, and that will be a good day.
  •
At the Lilac Festival, I had a chance to say hello to a girl I've known since she was a child -- a budding restaurateur who also happen's to be Nick Tahou's granddaughter.
  •
Here's a picture from after the recent Dansville Dogwood 5k. Over the last 20 or so years I've spent many Saturday mornings being outrun by this same cast of characters.
  •
Here's part of the greater Lonsberry posse after Saturday morning baseball practice.
  •
We took the kids to Highland Park to see the lilacs. They may also have climbed some trees. Here is Blue-eyed Ellie.
  •
This is young Jack engaged in activity which might be specifically prohibited by park rules.
  •
Even young Scott wants to get up a tree ...
  •
... like his big brother Robbie.
  •
OK, maybe we got a bit carried away with the whole tree-climbing thing.
  •
Dan Sinnott and I both had daughters graduate in the Mount Morris Class of 2011. We ran into one another at the end of the Lilac Festival 10k.
  •
Out running in the city of Rochester, I come across outdoor art. I kind of like this one off Mount Hope ...
  •
... and this one off South Avenue.
  •
The school had a biography fair recently. Jack chose to be Joan of Arc. Everybody else was Helen Keller or an NBA player.
  •
This is at the finish of the Sehgahunda trail marathon, 26.3 miles of running through the sylvan mud of Letchworth State Park. The man on the left is Don. He's married to WHAM 1180 news anchor Shari Smith.
  •
This lady and I ran together for about 10 miles. It was her first marathon.
  •
These two guys both went on to run the Buffalo marathon the very next day.
  •
This is what Sehgahunda turned out to be this year -- a mud bath.
  •
To say good bye, a photo from a recent hike, with dear Scott and Blue-eyed Ellie.
